Sololearn vs Mimo: how they compare

Quick answer: Both Sololearn and Mimo teach coding through short, interactive lessons, but Sololearn gives learners more room to explore and grow. You can access every Sololearn course for free on your phone or computer, with 40+ courses across coding and AI, hands-on practice, AI-powered tools, and a helpful community where you can ask questions and learn from others. Sololearn PRO also costs less at $5.83/month when billed annually, compared with Mimo Pro at $9.99/month. Mimo’s main strength is its guided, portfolio-focused projects, most of which are available on Mimo Max. If you want to start with the basics and build skills across a broader range of coding and AI topics, Sololearn offers a more flexible learning path.

What you get without paying

This is where the two apps differ most. Sololearn doesn’t lock its courses. You can take any of them for free, on the web or in the app, and you get a certificate at the end. The free plan does have limits. You have 5 Hearts and lose one for each wrong answer (they refill over time), you’ll see some ads, and a few practice extras are PRO only. You can still get through a whole course without paying.

Mimo’s free plan only works on your phone, and it stops after the first sections of each course. You get a little time with the AI tutor too. After that you need Pro to keep going and to get certificates. The web version and unlimited projects are on Max.

Learning Python: what each path contains

Sololearn’s Python Developer path has 12 modules and 59 lessons. It starts with your very first line of code and works up to object-oriented programming, with error handling and functional programming before that. There are 34 coding challenges too, and 24 of them are free. Each one asks you to write a small program, then runs tests on it to check it works. Every module ends with a quiz. A few of the challenges:

  • Chatbot v1.0
  • Finance App
  • Flight Tracker
  • Smart Parking Lot
  • Class Grade Analyzer
  • Hashtag Generator
  • Vending Machine Selection
  • Library Management System

Mimo says its Python path has 23 coding challenges and 8 projects. A project is longer than a challenge and takes you through the build one step at a time. Sololearn’s Python path doesn’t have anything like that.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sololearn or Mimo better for beginners?

Either works if you have never coded. Both use short lessons you can do every day. You get further for free on Sololearn, where you can take whole courses on your phone or computer. Mimo’s free plan stops after the first sections and only works on a phone. So if you’d like to finish a course before paying, go with Sololearn.

Is Sololearn cheaper than Mimo?

Yes. On yearly billing, Sololearn PRO works out at $5.83 a month ($69.99 a year) and MAX at $9.99 a month ($119.88 a year). Mimo Pro is $9.99 a month ($119.88 a year) and Mimo Max is $24.99 a month ($299.88 a year). You also don’t need a paid plan to finish a Sololearn course.

Which one has more projects?

Mimo has more guided portfolio projects, while Sololearn offers a broader mix of hands-on practice. Mimo focuses on longer, guided projects, especially with Mimo Max. Sololearn offers 34 coding challenges in its Python Developer path, plus practical Code Repo projects for HTML and CSS. So if you mean guided portfolio projects, Mimo has more; if you mean hands-on coding practice overall, Sololearn offers a wider variety.

Do Sololearn and Mimo give certificates?

Both do. On Sololearn they’re free, whatever plan you’re on. On Mimo you need Pro or Max. Neither certificate is an accredited qualification.

Can I use them on a computer?

Yes for Sololearn. It runs in a browser as well as on iOS and Android, even on the free plan. With Mimo you need Max for the web version. Free and Pro are phone only.

Can either app get me a developer job on its own?

No, and no app will. They teach you the basics and get you coding a bit every day, which is a good start. Employers also want to see things you have built yourself, so start a project of your own once you’ve finished the main path.
