i agree and disagree with you #ben. yes learn the language which would most help you with regards to your project or goal. But they asked what is a good language to learn.... well Java is definitely one of the best to learn.

I disagree with most answers here, you should choose a language depending on your project not based on the most famous at the moment, or else u'll never settle for one...so maybe if you tell us about your project or interest then we'll be of much help
