Operating system development

Question

Hello,
i have some experience with App development (java, android studio etc.) but i want to learn more about OS development. Does anyone know where i can start? What Languages do i need? What is the difference to an App? What IDE can i use? I want it to run on Tablets. Thank you!

First, Thank you! I know that this is a difficult goal i try to reach. But i do step by step. Another question, is it possible to use an already existing OS as a base of my new OS? Like the Amazon Kindle uses the concept of Android 4. Is there an Open source OS?
