Turbo C and later Turbo C++ was originally developed by Borland for the DOS OS in the 1980s. They later added support for Windows. It was later discontinued but somehow resurrected by the company that bought Borlands software development business (Embarcadero) - it looks like it is open source now (https://turboc.codeplex.com) Back in the 80s this was a cutting edge compiler, but now it is ancient. Even though it was capable of developing Windows apps (graphic apps running in protective mode), the IDE itself ran in text mode. It obviously was based on a very old version of C++ too when it came out. In not sure if they have updated the compiler to implement a more recent version of the C++ spec. But you can definitely still use it to learn C++!
