I'm new to html and I was wondering when I make a new html document if it needs to be .html or .index. and how do I publish my site?

.html is an extension for html file. Websites typically name their top/main page as index.html

For publishing your site online you will need a domain & a webhost to host your site. Check the search results-> https://is.gd/1HnkIA (ddg search result page)
There are also other ways like using github pages. Choose the one you feel more comfortable about.

.index is the mainpage. and in the main page, you put .html (Ex: about.html).

And how to publish your website? I really don't know, but you can probably find some videos on YT.
