Is it advisable for one to go study Java or other programming langauges in tertiary institutes or just stick to self-study?

if you want to be a great programmer I would suggest learni g a machine language like Haskell. Other than that keep learning online.

i agree with you on that one. since am new to this am just a little bit nervous of learning a multiple number of languages cause i am scared i might loose interest in the language i really like (want to learn)
