% is modulus and it is a division which stores the remainder, for example 5%2= 1 because 5 divided by two is 2 and has 1 remainder

New here, it seems to me like it's a method of removing the inconvenient/irrational aspects of mathematics in the first post, or a way of extrapolating the remainder in isolation in the second. Not only am I interested in the reason to both of these, but why the sigil for percentile for the function. Why? I await anyone scholarly help x XD

Do you want to know what '7%2' does? In that case, '%' is an operator which finds the remainder when a number is divided by the other. Here 7%2 gives the remainder 1 when 7 is divided by 2. In other words 7 = (2*3) + 1 7/2 = 3 7%2 = 1
