what should I learn in addition to HTML CSS JavaScript to build a chat website

I think you should just learn more JavaScript. I'm not sure if you should learn PHP (I know nothing about it.).

You'll need to learn a server side language such as php. Its also important to know about website security. The last thing you want is to have your site filled with spam and malware.

SQL is also a good language to learn. You're gunna have to know how to work with a database.
