How do you handle parents?

Everytime I mention the word computer to my parents, they always get angry and make problems with me! And it's not like I am doing bad in school or I do something else with my computer! Most of the time I am learning a language or creating something, or learn more about how networking or pentesting! Like how do I get them of my back?

Hi, a mother here ^^ Try to show them what you can do with your computer. You won't convince your parents that it is helpful if they don't understand what you're doing. Show them the games you play, show them what you coded and tell them how this will help you for your life (carrier maybe).

@Suraj :- My parents always support me ...They say that its my life i can do whatever i want... My friends are more interested in Phy. Chem. and Maths so they also think that i should also go in the same way as my friends get higher marks than me in these 3 (sometimes i too) but when it comes to C.S. nobody of them is better than me ... I forget to tell something:- Tomorrow is mother's day in India

Same here :'( Mom said "Programming ain't get you nothing to eat" But I know in the future I'm going to be like Steve Jobs anyways, My brother also said "Script Kiddie" to me and damn, I didn't care he called me like that, I didn't code to impress and make him believe that I can, Motivate yourself :) EDIT: Oh, Tashi N, You're already a mother but still coding? And your codes are amazing! Damn! I wish you good luck! EDIT (yeah again): @David You can also tell them that pentesting (hacking perhaps) isn't bad! You can use it to help people who are being hacked instead :)

@Nikhil :D They're worried that you only waste time on gaming. So, try to tell them that you only play a certain amount of time (you'll have to find a compromise and never lie or cheat... be trustworthy!) and maybe they will give you some extra time for coding then. Tbh gaming is a big waste of time in the most cases, but coding is not.

@David Then try to get help (by a teacher, a relative or someone else your parents respect) - let someone else talk to them. Don't fight, try to be keep calm and explain everything over and over again if necessary. Don't run away, act like an adult, try to solve your problems. Running away will make everything worse for you. If it is not possible to solve your problems (some adults can be really stubborn!), wait until you're old enough to go your own way.

I am in a similar situation....I always take my mom's phone and then start searching about tutorials and then sit and start learning....If my mom takes it from me...I switch over to my computer and then again the same thing....(In this time i forget to do my homework 😝😝)

You are right bro! The only thing we can do is motivate ourselves! I told them already, with our without you, am going to be known in this world for what am going to do! I will prove them wrong no matter how hard it will be!

Mom supports my coding hobby. <3 You just have to build your parents' trust in you. Show 'em the products of your long hours of coding: Tic Tac Toe, Hotel Reservation Program, running website in free hosting, etc. ;)

The only problem is I have tried that! @Tashi N it doesn't work! I show my dad that I was first in my country on Sololearn and he acted like he doesn't care! Infact he told me it means nothing to him! I showed him a software am working on, am going to call it the "Teacher's Tool" and show him the 6452 lines of code I used and he just go away that he was busy, meanwhile he was watching a movie that I paused! they complain about me playing games and I told them, I won't waste my time playing games when I can learn to create one! My mum called me a "thieve" because I said I am learning penetration testing, which in case you don't know are on great demand these days! it's like they just try their best not to understand! sometimes I just feel as running away with my laptop!

@Suraj you are one lucky fellow! I wish my parents were more like yours! Mine find every possible thing in my life to complain about! And programming is number one on the list! 😂 learn what I know now has been really hard for me! I usually have to stay up all night to learn, I usually start at 8pm or so till 3 or 4am the next day, sleep for about an hour and wake up by 5:45am to prepare to go to school! And that makes me really tired! But what can I do? in my case learning requires sacrifice! 😂😂 But I won't stop anyway, cause this is me, and nothing will ever make me quiet programming! I Love It too much!

Because of this, I have promised myself that I will try to understand my children more, when I get! & if one day they decided to follow the path if their father, I would not stop them in anyway!
