It really depends. If you want to get into data science, automate your life, or just code simple programs. I would say you should start with python. If you want to make android apps or object oriented programming stuff, java might be better. But why those two, and not something else?

This post is about solve a beginner question. Stop arguing, programming languages are like politics or religions, there will always be different opinions. So please make it easier to Sarah Al Mugarry to be able to make a decision as it may affect the course of her programming career.

I think it complete depends on your interest. Python is best language for AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) while Java is best for mobile app development. All the best 👍

Simon Sauter is right, no Q&A answer can really tell you, what's best for you. I would recommend you think about, what it is you are interested in programming. Then look into what might be the best language for that thing. If you have no idea yet, and just want to learn some basic stuff, python is very beginner friendly, and easy to get into.

HTML and CSS are not programming languages (at least not in the technical sense). They are concerned with things like layout and typesetting. Javascript is a programming language, but I have far too little experience with it to say how good it is for acquiring general programming skills.

As Simon Sauter said HTML and CSS aren’t programming languages, they’re just for structure and stylish web sites or web apps. But javascript is one of the most versatile and loved languages. As it can be executed in any device which can run a chromium instance. Discord app is developed with HTML, CSS and Javascript(maybe typescript) Visual studio code, skype, slack, and much more popular apps are developed with this stack

David Dolejsi as a matter of fact I think I was the first to down vote your first post. The reason for that is that you're giving incredibly bad advice. I've since down voted your other posts here to. So no it's not bots who down vote your posts. It's people who think that you're giving bad advice and showing severe character deficits.

You could check stackoverflow surveys, they are very interesting. The most wanted languages are python and typescript (typed javascript)

Yes, you can use electron.js framework to achieve this. Electron loads and run your HTML CSS and JS code into the core of a navigator (chromium), it’s a web site bundled in a frame without searchbar, navigator settings etc.

Both languages have different purposes. It depends on the aspects of programming you decide to learn.
