(I dont have experience with VR)
But based on what I've read, Python is not as good like C#/C++/C for vr dev, but a good language to start with.

I don't think most game engines support or target VR. I only know unity which supports VR. (and also AR *coughs*)

I doubt that the Python performance would be good enough for that.
