Can I study data structures and alogrithm while learning programming basics?

I am beginner in JavaScript programming. Though I have learnt the basics, I'm still studying more about it so I can have a good foundation in programming as they said this is a good way to start. They also said learning alogrithm and data structures will improve your programming skills tremendously. I want to be really good at this so I want to do it right. So I wanted to know if I can learn alogrithm while I am still learning programming basics. I was thinking data structures and alogrithm are advanced topics?

Start with basics then after finishing it solve more problems on it then start learning algorithms then data structure
