You can, but it's not well designed for that purpose... But begin programmation with JS will not be a waste of time, as JS and Java syntaxes are similar even different, and later you'll be able to more easily jump to Java which is more adapted to make android apps, but learning both java and android specificities at start isn't at all the easiest way ( but not impossible ;) ).
