What is github ?

Hi developers, can you please tell me something about github. What is does and how it us useful in programming.

most developers use github. professionally and otherwise. I don't like how dependant the world is on it; if it goes down, so does the world. other than that it's pretty great

Yeah I have a free GitHub account and I use it mostly to save or manage my open source codes.
