I have not used Coffescript, but I never saw much sense in learning a language that compiles to JS. Although that's just my way of seeing things. On the other hand, with the new versions of Javascript new elements have been added and the language has become quite attractive with those additions. Which is a good thing to attract new developers. We also have things like Typescript or Flow that have entered the field as a superset of Javascript and that add types and another way of manipulating class-based objects. To which I see them a little different because starting to use them does not require a high learning curve, in a very short time you can use their functions. I do not know if those technologies shape the future of JS, or the language ends up integrating elements to improve the development experience and promote new paradigms, but at the moment it seems that (TypeScript and Flow) have a lot of life (above all when used within frameworks as Angular and React)

I think now, with ES6 and plus, that coffee and alike are useless.
