The Python 2.x branch will see no new major releases after the one of 2010. 3.x is under active development 
many programmers uses Python 2 because much libraries exist in Python 2 and do not works un Python 3 but now that Python 3 is under devlopement (last update in 2016), now they move to use the Python 3 who is the future

⏹So as a new learner it's always acceptable where changes and development are done with time to adjust with changes and market demands.
