Eric Louis nav means navigation menu when you want to make navigation bar if you saw such websites then that time you may use nav tag. It is not compulsory. But it is good practice to use.

Span means it is a inline element. It has not any specific use but when you want your content to take space as per need then you may use span tag. Because it take only space according to the content. Mostly it use under div tag.

Meta means it comes under head tag. Main use of it is to represent your website good in SEO (Search engine optimization )
Meta tag contains metadata informations like name of author, description of website, viewport etc..
