How to make virtual keyboard with custom character

Hi! I have a project in mind (yes, still in my mind) I am currently designing a website and I made some custom keyboard characters for our own scripture and I wonder how can I make a virtual keyboard or buttons with that custom character and if you click that it will produce the output (the custom character) on the screen.

For example:
This is the custom characters in button
[√] [π] [¶]
If I click them all it will produce this output in the virtual box
√π¶

Is there any projects where I can base the codes to be used?
And any suggestions for what programming language is most suitable for it? Thank you
