Learning java by comparing with C?

Question

Is it possible to learn java by comparing its codes and variables with C? I learned C in 1st semester of my college.So I know how loops, arrays,strings work in C.

I don't know about C but I have learned some C++. And it has helped a lot. All the basic stuff is mostly the same with all the languages. All the languages are based on C :D
