How do I start doing stuff in VCS

Question

I recently downloaded VCS for java, but when i tried typing up some java lines from the course, it didnt have things such as color indicators

Am i doing something wrong or am i fine?

So basicly after i save some text as a .jar, the indicators and all of that will start working?

I think you need to save the file
With .jar
