To create a website you need to know for sure (HTML, CCS3) this is a basic website
To create adavance website you will need (Java script) and use libarary like JQurey
And ofcurse some skill at photoshop or any photo editing program that as front end developer
And you will need (PHP, or Paython, SQL) as back end developer

like Petja Boigk says every one of theses languages has his own utility. html structure, sql manage database, php allow interaction with user these are web developping languages. dont try to compare them with java, python which software developping languages
