The first difference is obviously the difficulty of the language ( because lots of us look at it). Another difference is what you want to do. In fact if you want to build the structure of a website you need to learn HTML, if you want to create the "skin" of the website you need CSS, if you want to build the interaction inside the website you need Javascript. If you want to create a software you could need c++ or java and so on....
