@Edward Android does use Java, but some other softwares have created frameworks to use different languages such as Xamarin, which uses C#

If u want to create native apps go for Android SDK(code in Java). If u want cross platform use xamerin or other cross platform support frameworks/languages.There are JavaScript frameworks as well for cross platform development.
