Why is dark CSS design so rare these days?

I was always wondering, why are all modern websites bright? Older times had more dark websites such as Steam. I always liked dark websites because of the contrast, the clean look and the fun of neon and glow. For the honor of neon, meet the encouraging website I made. https://code.sololearn.com/WxJ5kFIj7wDX/?ref=app

According to this article: https://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2009/08/the-dos-and-donts-of-dark-web-design/ People don't like to read bright text on a dark background. So the average user likes a 'normal' bright website better than a dark styled website. The article also has some good suggestions about what to do if you want to create a dark styled website.

I totally agree with you, dark themes are much nicer (imo) on websites. I’m glad SoloLearn offers a light & dark theme. Unfortunately that’s just the way modern website design went. Now we have modern as bright colors such as white.

I like dark themes, too, but I think it's best to give the user a choice.
