alt="" in the image command

Hello, I don't understand the usefulness of the attribute alt="" in the image command.

alt attribute is alternative text in case the image doesn't load for whatever reason. I've seen people using it on logos, so if it displays the name of the company or whatever just in the rare case the logo doesn't load.

Nowadays alt has an important role in an unexpected field of artificial intelligence. One of the most difficult challenges in teaching the AI is the need of an abundance of good, labeled data to feed the neural networks with it. Here comes alt, the to-date underestimated nuissance-like and "obsolete" HTML parameter, now precious like gold :) This is basically how top search engines give you Images results when queried with text keywords. And this is how AI learns what exactly is "a white horse running in the field".
