What is the purpouse of Ruby?

I recently completed the Ruby tutorial, and just now started C++. I see C++ instantly teaches you how to make a project, but in Ruby it was just scribbling and playing in the code itself. So my question is: What Ruby is used for? Was it even worth learning it?
