Performance, CSS inline or separate CSS file

What is better for the performance (in respect of speed, building up the page). Coding CSS style within HTML or by a separate CSS style sheet? Or isn't there any difference? I'm not talking about comfortability. Thx...

The external CSS stylesheet is better for both speed and website . It would be more comfortable as a website is full of webpages if you use inline css you have to do it in every webpage but you can attach the same external file to different webpages. It also increases the loading speed of webpages. Therefore, External Css is better.

Ok, this doesn't support my initial assumption. Thank you.
