python is the ULTIMATE tool ! you can use it almost everywhere it has a super easy syntax and user-friendly so that beginners can fully understand the code python has a great collection of products and influences, the Django framework gained a huge popularity recently and in Linux desktop operating systems Python is a built-in tool ! imagine the importance !! and also python has a hell ton of Libraries for simply everything ! from web apps to IoT python is used mostly for security analysis and exploitations, also for data mining and big data also for virtualization ! it has a lot of uses , it's the best second language ever (though it may seem that I'm a python guy but I'm a JS developer and I think JS is more important to Learn than python, cuz it's more popular and has more libraries , usage of js is more as well, but don't confuse them, as they don't relate much, it's true both are interpreting languages but the usage is totally different) hope you got the full picture of Python :)

as for performance and more advanced subjects please do a search. I think it is the [one of the] BEST if you wanted to create: back-end automation scripts exploits and security tools Data analysing also networking tools but it lacks performance in apps that use a lot of resources

I think that Python is really good for sciences, data analysis and easier than others language to understand if you never learnt to code before. Having only a matlab background, Python feel like a natural "extension" of matlab. As others like C++ are so different that's pretty much like starting from nothing (they also start to make sense as I am getting used to Python).
