I prefer vanilla JavaScript. simply because it helps me understand what's going on under the Hood.

JQuery helps simplify some codes that would have been complex in JavaScript. Notwithstanding JQuery is just a library of JavaScript...
For a wide range of functionality I prefer JavaScript.
