Do the new HTML5 content tags such as <header>,<article>, <aside>, <footer> etc support the Class and ID elements that <div> did

I know it's a very basic question, but do the new HTML5 content tags support the same elements as the <div> tag they are supposed to replace? For example in HTML4 we could have <div class="header"> or <div id="article1">, can we still use these in the new tags?
