Not if you're planning on programing for iOS or Mac. It's too old and won't run the current MacOS so you won't be able to program in Xcode for the newer platforms. It should work ok for most web development and languages like Java, Python, and C/C++. If you dual boot with Windows you may also be able to use C# without using Xamarin. It will most likely be a bit slow and may not be compatible with newer versions of some IDE's, however.
