How would you host a site with a paid service, but use your own html/css site?

All of the services for hosting that I see involve their own editors and website builders, not uploading your own files to a server or anything. can someone offer me a rundown of how actual hosting works with your own original site?

You need to find a host that gives you a cPanel.

Buy your host with cPanel, they will send you all the info about it, and, with the infos will come the URL for your cPanel. Open cPanel with the given credentials and go to file editor. Put your files on public_html folder and you are done. cPanel also has a online text/code editor, so you dont need to edit the code on your pc and upload again
