C++ got the ++ because it was an incremental upgrade of C. And C# got its name # because it was Microsoft's incremental upgrade on ++. It sounds ridiculous but if you put 2 on top&bottom ++ ++ it makes a # sign. I basically said the same thing as Fernando Martinez but with some visual help.

Just think it like C -> C++ -> C++++ or C#

Nope... It is a preprocessor directive. It shows that all commands are first processed and then compiled in a particular program.
