tldr; C#, C++, or Java. It depends upon many things. What platform do you want to develop on? What type of game? What engine do you plan on using? If you plan on using Unity3D engine, then I would recommend that you focus on C#, for example. I would learn whatever is going to compliment the direction you're trying to go with it. I wouldn't pick a language simply because it's easier to learn. That's like going to Germany and talking to Germans, but you only learned Spanish because it was easier to learn. Get what I mean? Learn whatever tool is going to be the best solution for your task. Go check out these: www.Unity3D.com www.UnrealEngine.com ^That's a good place to get started. It's the two major mainstream engines.

I didn't give my bias opinion in my original post, but I agree with Mohamed, Unity3D is a great engine to start with and is more than capable of creating whatever game you're trying to make. Lot of resources for that engine. If you go with it, then you'll want to learn C#, as that's the better of the scripting languages it supports.

hello this is my opinion about game development choosing a game engine is just a preference for me unity is better because there is a very large community with endless of tutorials. note: the programming language depends on the game engine you use. I encourage you to read the first chapter of this book called: the indie game developer hand book. that book will not explain all game engines but the famous ones.
