Being a freelancer and getting a job are two different things. A good freelancer not only knows how to code and do a good job, you have to be good at many other things - 1) how to sell your value 2) how to get clients to pay you on time. I always get 50% upfront, 25% interim payment if project is longer than 4 weeks, and final completion payment before we go live. That's the deal. You must be super clear on expectations with clients, communicate well, but never tell them how long things take. You are building a project of value, not being hired by the hour. And finally, value yourself. Most business clients look at people who can code like geniuses. Remember that but don't become arrogant about it. We are still as flawed as every other human so stay cool, humble, helpful, talk in lamens terms so average people can understand you. Getting your first client is as easy as offer to help people solve a problem. It's all about them and how you're adding value to their life, not about the time, work involved or even you. Just help solve problems for people. If you just want a job with someone, I can't help - been freelance for 15+ years. Hope this helps you out.
