I agree with Karl, the best programming language is what ever suits your needs the best. Why use a spanner to hammer in a nail?

Again. The best programming language is some mish mash of C, Lisp, ML. These are the gatekeepers of programming language world. Nothing newer has been invented that is not in any or all of them already for many decades now. Admittedly, Smalltalk, Ada, FORTRAN are different and enjoy very little mind share unlike the other three and their children.
