Java or c# which one should I go into

C# is highly loved, respected, but works only on Windows. Sure, there is mono. We're yet to see good uptake of mono.

Java is highly made fun of for its age and verbosity, sometimes hated on. But it often competes and trades the top spot on TIOBE index with C. Also, the JVM is highly respected. It works more or less the same on all hardware and software platforms.

If you are in beginning stage, go with Java. Almost all your programs will run identically on all the platforms.

If you are exploring, please try both and go with what you like. Consider trying F# if you run Windows or OCaml if you run Linux or Mac.

they are very similar. if you learn one, the other is very easy to learn. I learned Java and was able to make a unity game in C# without an issue, but if I was going to do it over I would have started with C#
