what is the use of alt="" />?

if I remove this tag it still work the same.. pls help

The purpose of the alt tag is to show text incase your image cant be read or loaded by the browser.

it's just a kind of additional information we r providing.... ex :in img tag ....alt attribute..if img is not loaded our txt in alt is displayed like.. <img src="a.jpg" alt="sry buddy pic not loaded" />
