i think you got it wrong. New technologies are introduced to make things EASIER for us, and write once run anywhere is just a part of it. People learn new languages to improve their knowledge, but also to make codes in an easier way.

well i said we learn new languages to make our tasks easier, and "to improve our knowledge", and a passionate programmer never stops, he/she keeps on learning something new, instead of getting satisfied by learning just one language.
