you can try head first java book. it is one of the best interactive book and it teaches java in a very exciting way.

There is no fast way if you want to do more than rather simple programming. Try completing this course, reading books and going through online tutorials. You also have to practice it in actual programming to understand more complex structures. If you went through the basics by working through a book, you should be able to start with more intermediate topics and be able to read the programs of others to learn a thing or two from them.
