Where are the lines drawn and what is considered code plagiarism?

I am new to programming but not to the concept of plagiarism, knowing plagiarism is passing someone else's work or intellectual properties as one's own without citing the original. This is easy to detect in most written word. But as I Goggled “ What is code plagiarism?” I find a clear cut definition elusive. As far as I understand it all code of a certain language are going to use the same functions to get the idea output.

Depending on how the code is licensed, plagiarism is self attribution for a work that is not partly or entirely yours without quoting the original author. It's a merely lucrative activity that in the majority of the cases is against the law and generally wrong.
