If notepad++ is not working?

you have to install eclipse is more functional in working with java and c or you could install netbeans it will be easier for beginners more than notepad++

notepad++ is an editor: it's very unlikly that it doesn't work.
if you want to compile/run the code within notepad++ you'll need to install plugins.
As an alternative (cross platform) to notepad++, you could use Atom
