Why is Plagiarism So Easy Here?! (Read at least some of this please)

So, if you've ever been on *any* Sololearn Program or "Code Bit" that's not yours, you've almost certainly seen 2 things: the "Public" toggle for the program, & the "Save" button. Both of those can be used to *directly copy off of somone else's work*. If you press the "Save" button, it just saves the exact same thing in the exact same way to your account (please note because i've never tried doing stuff like this & never intend to these may as well be partial & incorrect assumptions, but, hear me out). But, the "Public" toggle may be even worse. If you press the "Public" toggle, it will be asking you to make copy too, but it will be made *Private*! That means (again, based on technically unproven assumptions) you could secretly & privately plagiarise & directly copy someone else's work without their consent! I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be dealt with! This needs to be fixed!

Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's code as you own without giving credit to the original author and is not allowed under Sololearn's Content Creation Guidelines. You may report plagiarism to info@sololearn.com. If you do not want others to copy your code you should make your code private and not share the link. https://www.sololearn.com/en/Content-Creation-Guidelines/

make your code public with the knowledge that someone will probably copy it and at worst, call it their own. i think it's caused by the lack of ethical maturity of some members, maybe because they're young or feel protected by the anonimity provided by the system. The system puts value in the number of followers or likes, so some people do dubious things to get them. It's the society we live in. People just need to grow up. i have no issues with people copying my codes, and I also copy clever codes I encounter to analyze and learn from. People far smarter than me publish complex codes so others can learn from them and perhaps find bugs or improve them. but plagiarism is never ok. enjoying admiration for fake achievement means something is fundamentally wrong with one's moral compass.

The idea Dami Kay - Ashaolu, is very similar to Open Source software. You can find most of all of it, all the codes, all the good and bad - and then, do with it whatever you want. The important thing is to give acknowledgement to those who did the work, and should you make some kind of progress, share it for others to benefit. Should you make some kind of financial success, then it is also good to share that. Coders at Sololearn like to show others their codes and some need help or improvement and other coders offer that or other advice. It's more or less an anachronistic and utopic system, where the responsibility is on all of us to "Do the right thing" and "treat others as we'd like to be treated".

I think this "copying" has a good intention in design, but misused by the public. The mission of this app is to help newcomer to learning programming. The best way of course is to get hand dirty and write code by themself. However, learning from other is a good method too. Since there are many codes were created each day, it would be difficult to retrieve it days later. In that case saving the code for later revisit is a good idea. Unfortunately, many people take advantage of this feature and plagiarize what they saw. However, I don't see it can be fixed by disabling the "Public" or "Save" button. You still can easily highlight the code and copy it to somewhere else, especially on the web version. If you think your code is copied by someone without consent, you may try to post it in here. https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/524028/?ref=app

ELIAS AI probably should be used sparingly while learning because it is important to understand the responses generated so that you will be able to modify the code to meet your needs. AI generated code may represent code generated by humans so I think you should give credit to AI. Harvard makes a great AI tool for students: https://cs50.ai/

Yes, you should credit AI, too. For instance, leave a comment in the code that describes that AI was used to achieve this or that. Additionally, you can describe what your own effort was in the creation of the code/ function/ etc.
