How is it possible for someone who's level is 0 to be midway through a course?

So, I'm in web development course, it's my first course and the only place I have been getting exp from. I am currently level 4 at the moment. When I go and take a lesson I spend most of the time in the comments reading, replying, liking... But when I click on the number besides the ^ like button I see a lot of people who are level 0, of course there are lvl 5s, lvl 10s and all (who took and finished other lessons). So my question ❓ is, does anything else besides exp influence levels and does anyone maybe know how much exp is required to reach each level? My only theory is that those accounts are maybe private and don't have leaderboards, levels and exp.... And it's not just one or two who are level 0, most of them are.

Besides course completion you can also gain experience (xp) points through playing challenges.

im in the web development course, been top of the leaderboard each time in a row, not sure what you are referring to, i think its bad to read comments when learning, because people tell you the answer, or give you a explanation that you are not ready for and overwhelms you and also distracts you. i think your theory can be correct, you can opt out of the leaderboard thing, it would make sense to me, becuase im not a pro account and i see pro acounts that are not like active, they should be more active than me, i think.

Ibelina Leo , I saw somewhere somebody had figured out the xp ranges for various levels. I didn't save a link because it didn't matter to me, but you might find something if you try the various searches. I keep the leaderboard turned off now. It's just distracting. I also like to read the comments. Some of them are better than the course materials.
