What is the use of bits in sololearn?

We all have the purple - cube-ish thingies in the top right corner - called "bits". What are they used for?

I also wonder what are these bits for? It seems that now you can only use them to refill hearts. Pro content is not available for bits anymore. I'm afraid they are not really useful for many things like in the descriprion... Or am I wrong?
