The languages have nothing related but the name. Java is used for Desktop/mobile applications, and a lot of other stuff. Javascript is used when creating websites, mainly for making pages interactive/dynamic with the user.

the name "JAVAscript" came because of a marketing purpose back in the age.

javascript can also be used for apps but java is used with xml and has more function. javascript only "moves" a page, you have to use html to create it
