Does "rowspan" allways span toward the directon of the previous <tr> (up?) can you create rows w/o wrtng 6 dif <tr>s?

my first project is a 7x5 calander

IMHO, if you need to make table with 7 rows, than you must have 7 <tr> since number of <tr> indicating number of rows in table. (tr - table row). Rowspan is to span the cell <td> to merge some rows to single row at/for this cell <td> cmiiw :)
