What is the difference between varchar2 and varchar???

They globally behave the same. VARCHAR seems to be reserved (by Oracle) for support distinction between NULL and empty string in future. So it's better to use VARCHAR2 as VARCHAR is reserved for future usage.

it's almost same but varchar can take only 2000 characters where as varchar2 can take 4000 characters....
