It's very helpful because you can then try the Explanations out on your own and if you really want to learn good java coding you will need it. But for learning some basics you can use the code playground here so it isn't required but it's very helpful to have a jdk on your pc

nope...install jdk and ur favourite ide on pc..netbeans or eclipse
