empty-cells:hide is default in ie and firefox??

I was practicing with tables in css and intentionaly left a td empty to see if firefox automatically errases the borders but it didn't happened... I'm assuming firefox doesn't do that anymore.... Meher --> that's what I was checking.... I'm saying css course made a mistake.... firefox no longer uses empty-cells (no borders) as default when dealing with an empty td
